LOCATION: At Ngorongoro Conservation Area, on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. The distance is about 190 Kms from Arusha and 60 Kms from Manyara. Use of the Ngorongoro Airstrip is determined by the prevailing weather conditions.

 

DESCRIPTION:  The lodge is located on Lemala Hill, the uppermost hill on the Eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater forms part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which covers 8,300sq Kms (3,200 sq. miles) and has been set aside to preserve and integrate the diverse values and interests of wildlife, local people, archaeology, flora, tourism and the area's environment and ecology.

 

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is the only hotel on the eastern rim of the crater. It offers unique and spectacular views down into the crater floor and of the sunsets over the western horizon.

 

NUMBER OF ROOMS: 92 suites with a capacity of 190.

 

Room décor: Spacious rooms with wall-to-wall carpeting and a private solarium which offers stunning views either down into the crater floor below.

 

Room amenities: Central heating, a private lounge with a mini bar, a bedroom with two queen size beds and ample room for a third, an en-suite bathroom with shaver sockets and a hair dryer.

Visit to Empakaai Crater - a high altitude volcanic crater with scenic views over the mineral-rich waters of Lake Natron and of the nearby, still-active volcano the Masai call Ol Donyo Lengai. A one hour drive from the lodge, Ol Moti is another forgotten volcanic crater and short-term destination where it is possible to hire a guide and walk up to the top of the crater rim itself.

 

CONFERENCE FACILITIES: A large conference room with a capacity of 120 and full range of audio-visual equipment.

 

CLIMATE: At an altitude of 2,375 metres (7,800 feet) thus cool and cold weather, especially during the winter months of June and July when temperatures can get as low as 10' C or 50'F. Rest of the time is sunny. Rains between November and May.
