MAJI MOTO TENTED CAMP
-
-
-
OFFICIAL CATEGORY (Ministry of Tourism
classification): 05*****
-
-
LOCATION:
Maji
Moto Camp is located on the western shores of Lake
Manyara – a soda lake within the Lake Manyara
National Park in Northern Tanzania approximately 172
kms
-
(3 ½ hours) by road from Arusha or by flight to Maji
Moto airstrip which is a seven-minute drive.
-
-
DESCRIPTION:
The name “Maji Moto” is
Kiswahili for “Hot Water”. The camp is named after
hot water springs in the vicinity of the Camp.
The camp's location was chosen for its spectacular
flora - Mahogany Trees act as natural canopies - and
for its magnificent vistas. The camp was positioned
to offer an uninterrupted view over the soda lake,
which attracts pelicans, flamingos and a host of
other birds. The décor of Maji Moto mirrors the
sense of freedom and space created by the impressive
landscape. Afternoon breezes stir the heavy drapes
of the tents, moving unhindered through the open
living areas. In the dreamy shade of the forest
canopy, the stylishly simple interiors bask in
serene green light. The public areas here are
beautiful, with serene views out across the waters.
All the furniture is elegantly designed and locally
crafted.
-
-
NUMBER OF ROOMS:
10
secluded double tents.
-
-
Room décor
- The large classic safari-style tents are erected
on raised platforms. The tents are aglow from soft
lighting, great romantic swirls of cream canvas,
part Arabian harem, part American soft-serve; a
dessert desert fantasy. The dappled shade ensures a
deliciously light and cool living space.
-
Room amenities:
Furnishings are strikingly simple - a wooden-framed
mirror suspended by string from a tent-pole, a black
Crompton Greaves fan beside the bed and feature en
suite bathrooms with separate showers. Askaris
(security guards) accompany guests to and from the
tents at night
-
-
FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:
-
Lounge and dining areas are open to the elements,
paved in the pale shades of the surrounding sand,
set with furnishings in whitewashed wood and couches
fashioned, as in Zanzibar, from cement. Ceiling fans
of distressed metal churn slowly on bamboo poles."
The sweeping views from the dining room give guests
the opportunity to observe wildlife throughout the
day. A constant procession of birds and animals move
to and from the lake and in the trees around the
camp
-
There is also a traditional reed "boma" area in
which evening meals are set out, lit by candles and
a roaring fire. Very stylish.
