Merryde Loosemore is the proud proprietor of 'Gately on Nile', a uniquely renovated grand colonial guest house superbly situated on the shores of Lake Victoria in Jinja, Uganda.
Inspired by her Great Aunt, an adventurous spirit, Merryde once arriving in Uganda fell in love with the country and its people. "The natural beauty of the country, the fabulous climate, the warmth of the people and the relaxed lifestyle all contributed to me feeling as if I had 'come home' she says. I saw the opportunity of realising another lifelong dream to live and work in Africa.
My vision was to create a 'home away from home'. Something very different instead of what was then available in the country. A tranquil retreat where excellent, personal service and good food combine with elegant and comfortable accommodation to create an 'ultimate getaway'. An intimate conference venue for corporate clientele, the ideal week-end away for families from Kampala, a convenient stop-over for those travelling to and from Kenya and an overnight haven for tourist and business travellers 'alike'.
Gately on Nile opened in April 2000 after just 12 weeks of renovation from a very derelict property. The establishment has expanded from 4 - 21 rooms in nine years, where we have retained our unique retreat ambience. The abundance of rooms now provides options for group retreats and conferences with private meeting areas nestled away from the public arena. We guarantee you or your client will leave our premise feeling more relaxed yet recharged since they did on arrival.

The immediate aura of the of the 1940's colonial bungalow is euphoric on entering as witnessed by all resident guests and visitors alike.
This main building which also houses the public terrace restaurant is flagged by two separate british built houses spanning acres of lush, peaceful gardens. Spotted between are four luxurious hand crafted cottages uniquely designed and built by Merryde and her team of staff.

Room No's 2, and 4 are 'water view ', Cottages 1,2,3 & 4 are self contained Lakeview lodgings.

Main House 1 - (4 rooms) - Includes the dining room, guest lounge and 'Functional Art' gift gallery.

Main House 2 - (4 rooms) - Contains the original indoor seated conference hall for 20 pax.

Main House 3 - Ideal for group bookings (5 deluxe and 2 annexe rooms)

Our newest addition has private open outdoor bandas collecting the lake breeze and perfect for group meetings and retreats with small breakaway areas for workshops and private meetings. Add a massage and turn it into your health spa escape.
