The Lodge style home offers peace and comfort with facilities for conferences, seminars and workshops on a small scale. Open beamed ceilings, natural woodwork, log fires in the lounges and views over one of the last pockets of indigenous forest, complement the serenity and style of Macushla.
Macushla (Gaelic 'My Beloved') is located just twenty minutes drive from the Keyan capital, Nairobi, with the Nairobi National Park on its doorstep and the home of Karen Blixen close by, Macushla is a welcome alternative to consider, providing the amenities of a hotel yet the warmth and character of a private home. Macushla House is a welcome alternative for safari and business traveller alike, whether overnight or long-term and the staff, Carrie and Grant, are on hand with that personal touch.
Situated at a high altitude, Nairobi has a moderate climate. The summer months are sunny and warm without blistering temperatures, while winters are mild to cool, with very chilly evenings. Rainfall is also moderate, the wettest part of the year being late summer to autumn, when cloudy, drizzly days are common.
The house has been converted into a private homestay and offers accommodation in two bedroom wings each with two double ensuite bedrooms and a smaller ensuite single room. Macushla's spacious en-suite rooms cater for a maximum of ten guests. The main rooms are a combination
of wood panels, polished wood floors scattered with kilims, large fireplaces, high beamed ceilings, comfy sofas, coffee tables strewn with books and magazines, odd art works and each room leads through to the next. French doors lead down to the swimming pool where brightly coloured sun beds and umbrellas are scattered on the surrounding paving and a large stained-glass sculpture of a dragon dominates the scene.
The bar and dining room take on an ambiance of intimacy yet have been host to many a celebratory function and informal business dinner. The food at Macushla will leave you in no doubt that you are in a private home and not a hotel. Meals are prepared with the freshest of ingredients with particular care being given to presentation and simple but wholesome cooking. The terrace and swimming pool are regular venues for guests to relax, choose a tasty dish from the daily menu offered throughout the day and evening, or simply a traditional tea with a hint of indulgence - scones, strawberry jam and cream.
The private study offers the business traveller a quiet corner to connect with their laptop or the exercise bicycle - or both.
Swimming pool in lovely gardens. Transport can be arranged on request to and from the airport or downtown Nairobi.
The gardens are left to natural growth and indigenous flora and bird life. The Giraffe Centre is within easy walking distance and a short drive will take you to Kazuri Beads Workshop, Utamuduni Crafts for Conservation and Daphne Sheldrick's orphanage, home to numerous orphaned elephant and rhino.
