Simple elegance and luxury mark this luxury camp with stunning views of the hills, plains and the Sekenani River. It is the smallest permanent tented camp in the Maasai Mara. It is known for it's magnificent setting, excellent cuisine and what are probably the most comfortable tents in Africa.
Simple elegance is the Sekenani style. The camp is built at the source of the Sekenani River which rises from a rock pool at the east end of the camp and forms the stream which flows in front of each tent. The camp has maintained its characteristic style and atmosphere, thanks to the efforts of the new owners, and the local Maasai communities. The camp is operated in conjunction with twenty six Maasai families who have a share in the business. It is the logistical center for a community development project developing infrastructure for health-care, veterinary services, education and clean water for people living around the reserve.
Sekenani Camp is situated 6km from the Sekenani Gate, just outside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, with all tents facing the Sekenani River.
The temperature is comfortably hot during the day, nights can be chilly. Rains occur between November and May; the heaviest rainfall is normally in April. June to October are dry and windy. September and October are much drier before the November rains.
15 luxury tents set on decks, each with a beautiful view. Privacy is ensured, as all the tents are set well apart amid lush vegetation.
Room Amenities & Décor: Each tent is raised high off the ground on wooden platforms, with big windows. You have the luxury of a big, elegant bathtub with brass taps and individual water heaters. The toilet seats are wooden. You will also find beautifully painted and hand carved chests with locks. All the floors are wooden.
The tents themselves are large and raised off the ground on platforms. Each one is secluded and set into the bush in such a way as to ensure privacy. The en suite bathroom, replete with a full-length bath, make these among the most beautifully appointed tents in Africa.
A suspension bridge connects the guest tents with the dining room and bar area. Here, it is the turn of our talented chefs to entertain you with a variety of freshly prepared dishes and a well stocked bar.
Special Feature: Part of Sekenani’s charm is the special atmosphere that goes with being small and intimate, along with the personalised service.
In the evening a log fire is set on the wide veranda in front of the dining room. Here guests enjoy a 'sundowner' before dinner and listen to the sounds of Africa's birds and other creatures.
The dining area is a log and canvas structure open at both ends. You have to cross over a small ravine on a wooden bridge to reach it from your tent. There is a large stone terrace extending beyond the dinning area, where you can sit around a log fire and look out for game, private dinner parties or sundowners, bush banquets can also be arranged. Animals grazing on the plains in the distance provide mealtime game-spotting.
Dining at Sekenani is always a treat. Emphasis is on fresh gourmet meals and menus featuring a fusion of African and international cuisine, and meals are announced by an immaculately dressed waiter.
A wide terrace, opening off the dining area, is another viewpoint where guests can sit and enjoy a refreshing drink.
There is a small shop, housed in a building of natural stones, which sells quality craft items. Hamper breakfasts and lunch can be provided for game walks and drives, and private dinners as well as sundowners are catered for.
